Begin with the official route

The National Trust publishes several walks for Kinver Edge. Use the current route description and map as your starting point, including its distance, terrain and any notices. This guide helps you choose; it is not a substitute for navigation on the ground.

Three routes to compare

• Woodland trail: 1.1 miles (1.76 km), a shorter woodland outing with hillfort views.
• Heathland trail: 1.5 miles (2.4 km), a circular route focused on heathland.
• Centenary trail: 4 miles (6.4 km), a broader circuit through different parts of the Edge; the National Trust grades it moderate.

Choose a theme before a distance

A woodland route suits a day spent looking closely at trees and the changing light. A heathland route offers a different landscape to observe. A longer circuit needs more time for the whole outing, not only the moving time. Decide whether the group wants a short exploration or a substantial walk before comparing routes.

Read beyond the headline length

Look for climbs, exposed sections and the route back to your starting point. Ground conditions can change the effort considerably. Account for stops and anyone who needs a slower pace. If the published route does not answer an access question, ask the National Trust rather than assuming that a short walk is step-free.

Separate admission from walking

A walk on the Edge and a visit inside the Rock Houses have different arrangements. If you want both, check the house opening window and leave a margin. Carry the map with you, follow current signs and choose a shorter plan when the conditions or daylight make that the sensible option.
